While "window film" and "window tint" are often used interchangeably, the term "window tint" is typically associated with automotive applications, whereas "window film" is more commonly used to describe tinting solutions for commercial and residential properties.
Vista™ Window Film (or window tint) is a high-performance laminate made from strong polyester combined with metalized coatings and bonded adhesives. It features a scratch-resistant coating on one side, with a mounting adhesive layer and protective release liner on the other. Once the release liner is removed, the adhesive side of the film is applied to the interior surface of the glass. Window film comes in various styles, including clear, tinted, or patterned options, allowing it to seamlessly blend into any design. Additionally, window films are available in different thicknesses for applications such as solar control, safety, and security.
How Does Window Film Work?
Solar radiation consists of three components: visible light, infrared (heat), and ultraviolet (UV) rays, which can be felt. When solar radiation hits glass, window film works by blocking harmful UV rays and regulating the amount of light and heat that passes through the glass. The specific amount of heat and light rejection depends on the type of window film selected.
Window film is an energy-efficient solution that improves the solar and thermal performance of your building’s windows. By reducing excessive solar heat gain, it helps lower cooling costs and peak energy demand. Additionally, low-emissivity (low-e) window films enhance the insulating properties of your windows, providing savings not only in the summer by reducing heat gain but also in the winter by minimizing heat loss.
